Homemade Mayonnaise!

Did you know you can actually make your own mayonnaise!? Well, you can!  I found this recipe over at "New Life on a Homestead" (which is a great website, by the way) and I couldn't wait to try it.  So, last night I fired up the blender (thanks, mom) and made me some homemade mayo!

Here's how to make your own:

1 whole egg
1/2 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp white distilled vinegar
1/4 cup oil
dash of paprika (optional)

3/4 cup oil

Add all the ingredients into a blender except the 3/4 cup oil. Blend on low for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes.  Then, while blender is still running, take off the cap and slowly pour the remaining  3/4 cup oil into blender in a thin stream.  If you pour too quickly, the mayo will be runny.  I have to warn you, this will splatter a bit. Blend for a few more seconds until thickened.  And there you have it - your very own homemade mayonnaise! Store in a glass jar in the refrigerator.

Delightfully yours,
Debbie

I have made mayo in the past but never really got the hang of doing it well. It has been on my mind to try again however and your post was an encouragement in that direction. Thanks!

Abbi,
So glad you stopped by! This recipe was really easy, but it did splatter a bit when I added the oil. I just draped a towel over my arm/hand and blender as I poured in the oil. Thanks again for visiting the blog and I hope you'll be coming back.

Delightfully yours,
Debbie
