Homemade & All-Natural Dishwashing Liquid!

Looking for an alternative to the harsh dishwashing liquids found in the stores?  Here's an easy and safe recipe to make your very own all-natural dishwashing liquid!

Ingredients:

1-2 Tablespoons vegetable glycerin
2 Tablespoons white distilled vinegar
1 cup grated castile soap or any other all-natural soap
1 1/2 quarts water
5-10 drops lemon essential oils (optional)

Grate the bar of soap to get enough to fill 1 cup.  (about 1/2 bar)
Pour 1 1/2 quarts water in pot and add grated soap, glycerin and vinegar.

Heat until soap is dissolved, stirring occassionally.

Let cool until mixture reaches room temperature.
Add essential oils if desired.
Mix with stick blender.

Pour into containers and get ready to wash some dishes!
This homemade soap will not produce the suds like the store-bought detergents. Just remember, it's not the bubbles that do the cleaning!

Hi, I found you on Frugally Sustainable and have already "pinterest-ed" some of the posts from your great site. Is this only for dish washing in the sink or can it be used in the dishwasher?

Hi Polly! Thanks for visiting! This recipe is for hand-washing. I don't have a dishwasher so I'm not sure how it would do in a dishwasher. I'm working on a recipe for a liquid dishwasher detergent and will let you know how it turns out! (of course, I'll have to get someone to test it for me!)

Deb, I made some of this awhile back, and it was really weird. Was your soap the consistency of snot? Mine was and it was hard to dispense and lather.

Hi Leslie, this soap doesn't really produce suds. And, yes, it is kinda the consistency of snot. However, if you add more water the consistency is more of a liquid and is easier to dispense. Another option is to add more vinegar. The important thing to remember is that it's not the bubbles that do the cleaning. But I have to admit the consistency does take some getting used to. Thanks for visiting!
Delightfully,
