Tub/Shower Cleaner - Homemade & Natural!

HOMEMADE & NATURAL TUB/SHOWER CLEANER!

So, have you heard about the Dawn/vinegar mixture that everybody's talking about to clean your tub and shower?  Apparently, the mixture is supposed to really clean the gunk off of your tubs.  Well, I didn't want to spend the money on Dawn and I got to thinking.........why not try my homemade dishwashing liquid instead of using Dawn?!   I reached for my trusty vinegar and filled a spray bottle to the half and then grabbed my Homemade Dishwashing Liquid to fill the bottle the rest of the way. 

Luckily, I knew someone who had a particularly dirty tub (no names will be mentioned!).  I sprayed the solution on the tub and waited just a few minutes, then wiped away the gunk!  Amazing!  No scrubbing, no bleach, no icky chemicals!  I was so excited I cleaned every bathroom!  The showers had some very stubborn hard water stains that came clean and even the glass shower doors were left sparkling!

Instructions to make you very own Homemade & Natural Tub/Shower Cleaner:

First make the Homemade Dishwashing Liquid.

Next fill a spray bottle to the half with white distilled vinegar.

Then finish filled the spray bottle with homemade dishwashing liquid.

To use, just spray on tub or shower, wait a few minutes, wipe clean!

Homemade & All-Natural Dishwashing Liquid!

Looking for an alternative to the harsh dishwashing liquids found in the stores?  Here's an easy and safe recipe to make your very own all-natural dishwashing liquid!

Ingredients:

1-2 Tablespoons vegetable glycerin

2 Tablespoons white distilled vinegar

1 cup grated castile soap or any other all-natural soap

1 1/2 quarts water

5-10 drops lemon essential oils (optional)

Grate the bar of soap to get enough to fill 1 cup.  (about 1/2 bar)

Pour 1 1/2 quarts water in pot and add grated soap, glycerin and vinegar.

Heat until soap is dissolved, stirring occassionally. 

Let cool until mixture reaches room temperature. 

Add essential oils if desired.

Mix with stick blender.

Pour into containers and get ready to wash some dishes!

This homemade soap will not produce the suds like the store-bought detergents. Just remember, it's not the bubbles that do the cleaning!

Homemade Dishwasher Detergent!



Looking for an economical and safe substitute to store-bought dishwasher detergents?  This recipe only has 4 ingredients and is super easy to make! And it's all-natural!  Total cost is about $1.10 for 40 ounces.  Only need to use 1-2 tablespoons per load,  that's 3 cents per load!  Another bonus is the small container, saves on shelf space as well as money. Just think, one batch will last over a month!

Ingredients:

1 cup super washing soda (yellow box in picture)
1 cup Borax (white box in pic)
1/2 cup kosher salt (navy box in pic)
10 drops lemongrass essential oil

Mix washing soda, Borax, and kosher salt together.  Add lemongrass drops, whisk to blend.
Use 1-2 Tbsp per load in dishwasher.
(For best results, I would recommend using apple cider vinegar as a rinse agent.)

Let's Try This Again!

Surprise!  Yes, I'm back!  After a long (and much needed) break in posting, I've decided to resume regular posting to Deb's Delights.  I have to admit I've missed blogging! A lot of things of have changed in my life in the past several months, but my passion for saving money and sharing how to is not one of those changes! 

Probably the biggest change in my life is a new little business venture called "Grandma Bea's".  I started marketing the all-natural products that I enjoy making for my family.  I'm happy to say that business is good, time-consuming, but good.  Because of the time I'm devoting to "Grandma Bea's", I've also made another big change, I resigned from my full-time nursing job!  Yes, I'm now a SAHM! This is a huge adjustment for our family. Our household income is now almost cut in half. But no worries here!  Because of our frugal ways, we are doing just fine.  Actually, this situation has made me even more determined to find ways to save money! 

I'm looking forward to reviving this little blog and can't wait to see what other changes are in store! Follow along as our family embarks on this new journey!
